Quite a few interesting games found today, with two from Itchio and the other four from steam.

Starting my recommendations for the day, let's shine a light on a game that has been making a few rounds on Youtube amongst popular channels. Night Lights, a puzzle game where the light and darkness are yours to carve out a path in your journey. Maybe you'll also get a lightbulb moment.
Following one puzzle in the night, I bring another puzzle game in the day. Aurore has a peaceful relaxed atmosphere to enjoy as you a journey through a young girl's imagined world. Manipulating the environment as you go, shrinking and growing rocks.
Probably one of my favourite full releases today has to be Project Madison. We've all had that one person at work that wronged us or did something to make us hate them. Oh how we have spent hours thinking up schemes of revenge, sweet satisfying revenge, or is that just me?... Well either way, now you have a chance to enact these plans without the trouble of getting fired for poor office relations.

Following these recommendations, we've got two brilliant games entering Early Access and need all of your support in helping build it to their full potential.
Pixel Noir has been on my radar for a while (beautiful pixel art is my Achilles heel). Get your whiskey and smokes ready. Open them blinds, let in that harsh light and let's get solving some cases. Starting with where that damn cat has gone. I mean eventually, we'll work towards clearing our name, eventually.
Most students hardly get by making dinner (still have vague memories of a flatmate burning a jacket potato somehow), but these 23 students have banded together to give us a mad pulp action space adventure complete with space combat, ship boarding and crew management. This is a game worth checking out, especially since its free. So go ahead.

Check them out below and tell me what you think. Any of these grab your attention like it did mine?

A tiny robot faces the quest of illuminating a darkened planet and begins learning how to play with the resources around them. A game with incredibly unique mechanics which manipulate light & shadow which change the surrounding environment, solve intricate tasks and ultimately collect shards to resurrect a fallen star.

Be a little robot beacon of light in a dark & puzzling world.

Interacting with the environment to solve puzzles are some of the best and most enjoyable games, especially when done well. The light and dark mechanic works nicely in 'sculpting' and 'carving' the environment to get to where you need to. The sense of achievement coupled with beautiful visuals has led many to create masterpieces. Now I'll be forthcoming, I wouldn't put this up there with Limbo and Braid, but it is still incredibly enjoyable and satisfying to play.

Developer - Reverie Forge
Publisher - CNAM-ENJMIN
Release Date - 7th June 2019
Available on PC

You play as Aurore, a young girl traveling by train. During her journey, she gets lost in her reverie and imagines her own world, where she has the power to resize objects.

You will progress in this inner universe, discover its possibilities and how it evolves as she continues her travel.

It's always impressive when I find a student project that manages to wow me. The visuals are beautiful and the puzzle mechanic simple. With the power to shrink and grow items in teh world to traverse the environment. This is a peaceful and atmospheric game that you can enjoy for a half hour (and again if you want to keep enjoying the serenity).

Project Madison

Developer - Pauline Martyn
Publisher - Pauline Martyn
Release Date - 7th June 2019
Available on PC

In Project Madison, play a disgruntled 1960s secretary determined to enact revenge on Jeff, her nemesis. Use the environment and your work relationships to get Jeff fired from his cushy job!

During the day explore, spy on desks and hidden objects, make friends, and get in the boss’ good books by doing all your work. During the night use your limited time for mischief: stealing, breaking locks, or destroying important documents.

Jeff’s got it coming, and it’s up to YOU to decide how!

Having grown up on a steady diet of 80s movies filled with schemes and plots (can't forget the Pinky and the Brain too), seeing this game put a sinister smile on my face. Doesn't take a lot for me be drawn to any story centered around revenge and from what we can see, Jeff has it coming. For a small game, there are a lot of fo features that have gone into it such as trust/friendship levels and reaping the rewards or consequences of our choices. Would you like some laxatives with that coffee?

Something happened that night in the hospital - something that cost you your career as a police detective, your sanity and your partner's life. Ten years later, you have the chance to put things right. Are the hallucinations that plague you a key to what happened that fateful night?

Everybody loves a noir story right? Hardboiled detectives, countless cigarette packs, harsh lighting, and a troubled past. As well as the intriguing story about clearing your name and avenging your partner, there are several cases to keep you busy and entertained. From missing pets to murder investigations, you'll explore this seedy city with colourful characters and test your detective skills.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version contains the first half or the game (chapters 1-4). In the full game we plan to include more polish, more areas to explore, more quests, and most importantly, the second half of the story!”

EARLY ACCESS

Captain Starshot (https://www.doubledoorgame.com/)
Genre: Action, Adventure, RPG, Space
Price: FREE TO PLAY
Developer - Doubledoor Games
Publisher - Breda University
Release Date - 7th June 2019
Available on PC
Steam Store

Salute Captain,
We are pleased to see you reporting for duty. Now, let us explain to you what you can expect on this mission;

As Captain Starshot, you and your space crew are tasked with the mission to explore the galaxy in search of villainous aliens and to defeat their leader.
Fly off with your spaceship and face off against the hordes of enemies you will encounter on your mission.
Operate with the help of your crew members, who hold various abilities that allow you to overcome any challenge within the mysterious enemy ships.

This has got to be one of the most polished student projects I have seen. A team of 23 have created a fantastic looking space adventure with a clean and informative steam page and trailer. The gameplay itself consists of space flight and combat, as well as top-down shooting with your crew when boarding enemy ships. This introduces some rogue-lite elements that work really well. The only complaint is the clunky controls for flying your ship, but otherwise, awesome job.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We are planning for the full version of Captain Starshot to feature more improvements when it comes to player feedback and progression. This includes but is not limited to new abilities, meta progression and more enemies The amount of content or the type of content we create might change as development continues.”

Stay tuned for more New Releases and Early Access picks later tonight.
