Flirtations - A LARP Fic (Wayward Road)

Another Fic from the Supernatural inspired LARP, this one was inspired by actual role play in game between my character and another.

I'd noticed her fairly early on Friday night. Of course I had. I always did a visual sweep of any room I walked into - a habit my Father had instilled in me from an early age and one that years of running a bar had compounded. You looked for trouble before trouble came looking for you.

Slash of red hair, eyes that Grandma would have been proud of and a mouth that seemed made for smiles, amongst other things. She was stood with a group of people who were obviously hunters, you can always tell - Trouble with a capital T.

I put her out of my mind, I'd promised Evie I'd be on my best behaviour, until...

“Hey pretty lady. My friend says I can't hit on you because you'll eat me or something.”

I turn and it's her, Trouble.

For a moment my emotions spiral: fear - how the fuck does she know what I am, sadness because technically she's not wrong and something akin to amusement that despite her friend's warning she's still stood in front of me, hitting on me - or well, attempting to anyway.

I give her my best flirtatious smile, hoping that none of that seeps through my facade.

Something about her pulls me in, makes me feel able to talk to her - not just trot out my usual lines. Perhaps its because she already knows what I am, but I find myself telling her about my necklace and how it helps me control the hunger. It's the strangest pick-up conversation I've ever had and I really hope she doesn't think I'm working some kind of sexy mojo on her. I'm not, and even if I could I wouldn't - I reckon we just get each other.

“It's refreshing to meet someone with similar coping strategies. Who gets its you know? No strings.”

Neither of us say it out loud but it's there, an underlying current to our superficially casual conversation, strings are a risk neither one of us is prepared to take.

Her friends are calling her over, possibly concerned about her spending too much time with me and then she says the best thing I've heard all night...

“If you don't get a better offer, you know where I am.”

Well, okay then! I smile and tell her definitely.

As I watch her walk back to her friend's, noting the rather nice leather jacket one of the guys is wearing, and not to mention the way he fills it out, I wonder if she gets sad sometimes. Lonely. Like I do. Wishing there could be more. Wishing for the One.

I shake my head and head to the bar to grab another beer. Get a hold of yourself Vale, you're not here to make friends. Just keep it simple and nobody gets hurt. But I mean, as long as we're both having fun why can't we distract each other? Besides, she makes me smile with her blunt, direct ways and she doesn't care that I am a mess of a not-so-human being...

Let it Go - A LARP Fic (Wayward Road)

Background: Wayward Road is a LARP based on the T.V. series Supernatural but set in the UK. I play a character called Valentina who is definitely NOT human.

This Fic is set in the game world but not related to any game play.

"Look Mummy! Mummy! Mummy!" Vale sighed and smiled at the small child who was currently staring at her open mouthed whilst tugging on her parent's hand; "That lady looks just like Elsa!" Vale had to laugh, if only they knew just how accurate a description that was - minus the whole turning stuff to ice of course, she wasn't THAT much of a mutant!

Evie liked to joke that Vale's life was like the worst Disney film mash up ever but Vale felt a certain kinship with the ice princess; "conceal it, don't feel it indeed" she muttered, adjusting the fingerless gloves that covered the intricate swirling marks on her palms.

As she carried on walking, Vale thought wryly that if she ever needed a bit of extra cash she could always look into the whole Disney Princess party thing, but for now she just needed to let it go...

Mortals - A LARP Fic (OJ&Qs)

Background: Of Jacks & Queens (OJ&Qs) is a dystopian fairytale larp where Happily Ever After and True Love might not be enough to save the day and rebellion is brewing. I play Maven the Green Fairy who is the daughter of the Lilac Fairy, head Fairy Godmother. Maven is a Fairy Godmother in training who's magic has been a bit temperamental in the past and who also got herself into a bit of trouble for turning in a Prince into a frog as a favour to a Princess who didn't fancy getting hitched...

This is a Fic based in that world but not directly influenced by gameplay.

Mortals, what was it about them that drew her in like a metaphorical moth to a flame?

She’d been warned time and time again not to get involved, that she’d only end up regretting it, but she just couldn’t help herself. Something about the fleeting nature of their lives made them burn that much brighter in comparison to the rather staid nature of the majority of the Fae. Well, the Fae that she spent most of her time around anyway. They were BORING!!

There was one particular group of mortals who fascinated her the most – those who called themselves PIRATES! They seemed to go where they pleased, do what they want, be with whomever they want and never had to answer to anyone. Such excitement! No rules, no expectations, no wildly powerful parent to disappoint…

As she sat in the window of her room, gazing out over the Forest, Maven dreamed of a different life – one of adventure, love and freedom.

“Maven!” came the call “It’s time for your lessons!”

Heaving a sigh, and with one last longing look out of the window, Maven gathered up her wand and prepared to carry on with her life.

One day, she promised herself, one day!

As Maven left her room she was watched by a pair of eyes that seemed rather knowing for a small amphibian…

One day, he promised himself, one day my love…
